Indigo has announced it will launch daily flights between Mumbai and London Heathrow later this month.
The launch of the new Mumbai-Heathrow route – the first for IndiGo to London – will start on October 26. IndiGo will use Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft that have been wet/damp leased from Norse Atlantic Airways on the new routes.
To the UK, IndiGo previously launched flights from Mumbai to Manchester earlier this year.
Speaking about the launch of the new route to Heathrow, IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers said: “Entering Heathrow, a key global hub known for its scale and connectivity, is both a proud milestone and a strategic step forward in strengthening IndiGo’s global footprint. The India-United Kingdom corridor has long held significant relevance, not only because of strong bilateral ties, but also due to the growing traffic between the two countries driven by students, visiting friends and relatives, business and leisure travellers.”
“After the outstanding response to our long-haul debut flights to Manchester, we are excited to set foot in London, offering more travel options for our customers while reinforcing our commitment to provide seamless connectivity between India and the world,” added Elbers.
“We are pleased to welcome IndiGo's new daily service between Mumbai and Heathrow,” said Heathrow Chief Customer Officer Ross Baker. “As the UK's international gateway, this new route will further strengthen the vital ties between the UK and India, creating opportunities for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. We look forward to supporting IndiGo's international growth while offering passengers more choice when traveling between these two world-class cities.”
Heathrow will be IndiGo's fourth destination in Europe, where it currently operates flights to Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and Manchester. Each of the routes uses the wet/damp-leased 787s.
